XTS Vehicular Adapter

General Information

The XTVA is the vehicular adapter for the XTS series of radios.

The XTVA requires the radio to have at least version 5.6 software (The version via service menu).

There are two hardware versions of the XTVA that have different circuitry, the A version, and the B and later versions. In the B version the audio circuitry for volume control was modified. In order to use the XTVA it requires the RF adapter (NTN8327) to be installed. Without it you simply have an expensive vehicular charger.

Unlike the MTVA (MTSX series), the controller is built into the XTVA. Three types of microphones can be used. They are the Standard Palm Mic, Next Generation Hand Mic, and Hand Held Control Head (which looks exactly like the ASTRO Spectra W3 HHCH).

The XTVA comes in two models, the first is an open faced model which allows the keypad of the radio to be accessible if the HHCH is not used, the second covers the display and keypad for protection. Each model is available with either a BNC antenna connector or Mini-UHF.

The radio can be programmed when docked in the XTVA with a separate XTVA programming cable. In addition, there is a data cable which allows the radio to send and receive data via an RF modem for MDC applications.

To re-initialize the microprocessor, disconnect power and remove radio. On the DB-25 connector, short pins 21 and 23 together, and also short 1 and 10 together (Do not connect them all together). With the pins shorted apply power to XTVA for at least 10 seconds. Remove the power source and jumpers. Power the XTVA back up and insert a radio. The XTVA should display the following if successful:
